Our dogs are probably already drooling at the thought of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie this upcoming Thanksgiving. So are we. When the ever-indulgent holiday rolls around, and a big feast occurs, our pups will likely be near the dinner table begging for scraps and leftovers.
But what’s safe to feed your dog and what’s unsafe?
Here is a list, from the American Kennel Club (AKC). Read the full article on their website!
Safe:
Sweet potatoes
Potatoes
Apples
Turkey meat (without the skin and bones)
Green beans
Plain peas
Pumpkin
Certain desserts (no chocolate, of course!) – a healthy one is frozen yogurt
Unsafe and Unhealthy:
Turkey bones, skin and gravy
Stuffing
Casseroles
Mashed potatoes
Creamed peas
Chocolate, cookies, pies, and sweets (especially anything containing xylitol)
Raisins and grapes
Onions, scallions, and garlic
Ham
Yeast dough
Fatty foods
Foods containing spices
AKC also advises to take out the trash quickly so your dog, a super sniffer, can’t get into it and dig out any harmful foods. If your dog does accidentally ingest something toxic, contact the Pet Poison Helpline or a local vet.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your pup! Let’s ensure it’s both delicious and safe.
