Hershey, The Toy Poodle

As a little girl, Sadie Joseph remembers watching dog shows and dreaming of owning a poodle. She loved the beauty and regality of the breed. Flash forward to today, and an adult Sadie has a six-and-a-half-month old toy poodle named Hershey, who she spoils to bits.

“Hershey is my very first puppy and I’m glad poodles have so many wonderful qualities,” Sadie says. “I live in New York City so a standard poodle just wasn’t practical. The toy size made perfect sense. Plus, her face was just so cute I couldn’t resist!”

Sadie met Hershey in Long Island and brought her home that very day. She knew as soon as she held Hershey that she wanted to give her the best possible life, full of fun and treats. Read more about this adorable pup:

Dog Whisperer: Tell us all about Hershey!

Sadie: Hershey is a six-and-a-half month old toy poodle. She’s a very energetic, playful pup who is alert and hilariously thinks she is a watchdog. Hershey loves attention and is truly a lap dog. Poodles are great companion; they’re athletic, responsive, easy to train and love to interact with people.

DW: What is your relationship with your pup like?

S: She’s basically my little shadow — she must be at my feet or in my lap at all times. I truly feel we are bonded. I hate being out of the apartment for more than a few hours without her. If I have a day planned, I usually pack her a bag and bring her with me. Hershey is very popular on the Upper East Side and she and I have all of the same quarantine habits: eat, nap, play, repeat. 😂

DW: What are your Hershey’s favorite activities aside from her quarantine routine?

S: She loves to drag her pink toys everywhere, play fetch and ruin any shoes she can get her paws on. Hersey can’t resist cuddling and, on walks, prefers to be carried like a baby or queen. She is teething so she enjoys nibbling on fingers, at the moment, but we are working on stopping that. She will even chew on her own feet; I find it incredibly adorable. She also loves to chase my iRobot and it’s pretty funny to watch!

DW: What are your pup’s favorite foods and snacks?

S: Hershey LOVES her meal toppers, such as dehydrated chicken. Beef WholeHearted chewy training treats are her favorite, but Hershey goes crazy for frozen grapes and carrots

DW: Does Hershey have any best friends?

S: I’m her best friend for now… but we do plan on having play dates with a morkie named Prince and another toy poodle in our building named Molly.

DW: What are some fun facts about Hershey?

S: She is too smart for her own good. I tried to train her to sleep in a very large playpen and she continued to climb the sides like a ladder to escape. She sleeps most of the day and likes when I sing, even though I’m terribly out of tune. Her body goes stiff after belly rubs and she LOVES when I give her belly raspberries.
