When Troy McDaniel was in prison, he got stuck in a routine, going to the yard and reading books in his spare time. When Pawsitive Change Program, a comprehensive inmate-canine training program that takes place over a three-month period, came to his prison, he decided to give it a go. Little did he know, this would forever change his life.

Along with KTLA’s Kacey Montoya, Sabrina started the nonprofit, K911 ResQ, run entirely by volunteers, and on fundraiser and donor funds. The rescue organization helps dogs in extreme cases of neglect, health crisis and emergency.
“[The food drive] was an improvisational response to COVID-19 and the heartbreaking messages we were receiving,” Skow says. “A lot of people don’t realize how poor Kern County is. We are simultaneously hit with an oil crisis and agricultural devastation. These factors have combined to create a perfect storm of desperation.”
Hurley was a yellow lab that loved life more than anyone I know! She was genuinely excited to see old friends and new, often greeting people with her signature “Hurley Shake.” She would wiggle with such excitement that her tail must have hit her nose! During her 13 years of life, she made everyone that came in contact with her smile.
